Why Is Google Analytics 4 Showing Lots of Traffic From Singapore?

Google Analytics 4 Bot Traffic

Many website owners have recently noticed unusual spikes in traffic from Singapore in Google Analytics 4 (GA4). In many cases, this traffic is not coming from real users, but from automated bots visiting websites and triggering analytics tracking.

Unlike traditional “ghost traffic,” where bots send fake data directly into GA4 without ever loading the website, this newer type of bot activity behaves much more like a real visitor. These bots are capable of engaging in activities that mimic basic user behaviour just enough to appear “human” on the surface.

Because these visits mimic normal browsing behavior, Google Analytics 4 has difficulties detecting and filtering this bot traffic automatically. As a result, many businesses are seeing inflated traffic numbers and misleading engagement data inside their analytics reports.

RW Digital has also experienced a large increase in traffic from Singapore year-over-year.

Some of the most common signs of this automated traffic include:

  • Sudden increases in unknown traffic source
  • Traffic with low engagement
  • Landing pages appearing as “(not set)”

Google has said they are actively finding the root cause and coming up with a long-term solution. In the meantime, while there are no specific actions that can be used to exclude this bot traffic, businesses can exclude all traffic from Singapore from the server level or create a filter in GA4 to exclude Singapore traffic. If you want help with filtering this traffic, please feel free to get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
