Google has confirmed that performance data for AI Overviews will be included in the Search Console performance reports.
This means site owners will be able to see if their content appears in Google’s AI-generated search results. However, this data will not be reported separately. You won’t be able to filter AI Overview data from other types of search traffic, such as traditional web search or Google Discover. As a result, while you’ll gain some visibility into how your content is performing in AI-powered search, you won’t be able to analyze that performance specifically.
According to a Google spokesperson:
“Just like the rest of the search results page, sites appearing in AI features (such as AI Overviews and AI Mode) are included in the overall search traffic in Search Console. (Note: AI Mode reporting isn’t live in Search Console yet, but we expect this soon as part of the AI Mode rollout.) In particular, they’re reported on in the Performance report, within the “Web” search type. Learn more about how various Search features are counted towards the overall data in Search Console, how to analyze traffic changes overall, and how to combine Search Console and Analytics data.”
It’s still unclear how data from AI Overviews or AI Mode will appear in Google Search Console. Website traffic from AI-generated search results will likely be grouped in with overall SEO organic traffic, but Google is taking a step forward by providing more data related to AI-driven search. These insights will help marketers better understand website performance from AI-generated results and offer ideas for improvement. One step at a time.
